IER with brine & rinse water recovery system

After the up stream system of melt clarification followed by Deep (Multi) bed filtration system IER with brine and rinse water recovery system is installed to produce the refined and pharma grade sugar.
Filtered melt generated through deep (multi) bed filters may contain fines, colloidal suspended solids that may create visual turbidity. Hence the filtered melt is passed through bag type filters for separation of fine colloidal material.
This filtered melt is fed to Ion Exchange columns filled with styrenic / acrylic type resins. Coloring matters gets adsorbed on this resin and the decolorized melt is collected in a decolorized melt tank at ground floor and further pumped to melt concentrator.

After certain cycles the resin needs regeneration.  For regeneration purpose brine solution is required to pass through ion exchange resin for a pre determined period.  The brine as resulted from resins shall be fed to Brine Recovery System for salt recovery.

Brine recovery system

The sugar refinery uses Ion Exchange Resin Column for de-colorising the melt liquor. The columns have to be regenerated after saturation and this is done by using a combination of Brine and caustic solution.

The spent brine discharged from the column after regeneration will be subjected to Brine Recovery system.

The main objectives for the brine recovery system is

For brine recovery system Nano filtration membrane are used for treatment of effluent containing salt at high temperature and pH. This system facilitates to reduce the quantity of effluent as well as consumption of salt.
The brine recovery system is suitable to recover about 90% plus of the salt from the feed.
Suitable RO system is also provided for recovery of rinse water to reduce consumption of fresh water required to operate the entire system.
